\u3000\u3000In the second semester of the first grade, students read the well-known fairy tale \u201cThe Ugly Duckling\u201d<\/em> in Reading Street 1.3 which describes the story of an ugly duckling turning into a beautiful swan. In this reading, students learned to appreciate and empathize with the duckling by observing its differences from other ducklings.<\/p>

\u3000\u3000Being the same and being different are both admirable. Students reflected on themselves whether they are different from others, such as things they like and abilities they have and then found related photos.<\/p>

\u3000\u3000Through the self-exploration journey, students not only had better self-understanding and also had a clearer blueprint for their future careers and also decided what they want to become in the future. In the end, students completed their own flipbooks and presented at the English Open Day which allows everyone to appreciate the little lives are still childish but begin to show their maturity.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u3000\u3000There is a joy to the harvest at the end of a school year-English Open Day. An event fills with people, transportation, class work, and an incredible amount of excitement. It carries a \u201chigh\u201d that helps support the learning demands, students\u2019 efforts and teaching. But 2022- here we are. How do we communicate and invest that same amount of joy in a way that keeps all students, teachers, and family lives safe? Our virtual English Open Day can make it happen!<\/p>

\u3000\u3000The kick-off to G2 English Open Day was the frog welcome song. Students\u2019 singing brought the fun opening of project main character, the bull frog, Ben\u2019s Amazing Journey. Then, teachers involved parents in the planning process of how the second graders categorized the information from the project readings \u201cBen the Bull Frog\u201d and \u201cBurrowing Animals\u201d by students\u2019 posters. Through activity pictures and videos in the ppt, parents could learn about the children\u2019s authentic progress on the research of how animals use special body parts to adapt in the rainforest and the burrows. Finally, all the people immersed themselves in the presentations of how children used creativity and what they learnt to help Ben transfer to a super species in the new habitat. With the visual feast of students\u2019 drawing of new Ben, this is definitely an enjoyable virtual English Open Day experience to everyone!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u3000\u3000Discovering your passion in life will ultimately lead you to making your dreams come true. The word \u201cmania\u201d has several meanings and for the sake of the story Marvelous Marble Maria it describes how an eight-year-old boy\u2019s mania or excessive enthusiasm of marbles led him to open a marble shop. After the reading of Marvelous Marble Mania, the third-graders were given the latitude to discover their interest and passions, and then actualize and form their dream shops. Once the student\u2019s had chosen the shop\u2019s products, they visited and explored similar real world shops to observe the important elements of a successful business. The students continued their project by creating promotions, services, and decorations of their shop. Students prepared blueprints and made a shop poster to convince customers to visit their shops. Through the presentation of their work, our students gave a persuasive speech to share their dreams and \u201cmania\u201d to everyone on their English Open Day.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u3000\u3000There are millions of animals in the world, and some of them are so special that we might think they only exist in movies. \u201cMysterious Animals\u201d has been one of the students\u2019 favorite topics for the past few years due to the unique and special features of each of the four animals. In order to expand students\u2019 interests and motivations, teachers structured a six-step project to let students not only learn how to depict the special traits of the animals but also integrate their creativity into their own pourquoi tale. The first stage is to let the students understand the special features of the chosen animals. Then, students continue to explore some other mysterious animals. After introducing six more mysterious ones, the students have to select one of them to do the research in order to acquire more knowledge about it. Step four is a crucial phase since it\u2019s time to delve into their favorite animal and list out at least four to five features. Based on them, they have to brainstorm a story with a dangerous problem and an interesting solution to explain why the normal animal turns into a mysterious one. Of course the story needs to be engrossing and logical, so the students need to revise it based on the feedback from the teacher and the peers. The last step is to present the story and make some adorable puppets to connect the whole story and to present on the Open Day. Undoubtedly, this will be one of their most unforgettable moments in their school life.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u3000\u3000The topic of Grade 5 English Open Day aims to guide the students to reflect on the knowledge or skills they have learned when participating in clubs. Moreover, the students look at how the knowledge or skills benefit their own lives. After group discussion, the students have learned how to make a survey with Google Form to receive feedbacks from fellow club members and to find out if other members have the same gain as them. Grade 5 students did a great job presenting their work through Google Slides and successfully made their recommendations to others students about choosing a club. Well-done! \u3000\u3000Technology has always been developing in a blistering pace in our modern world. Creativity and originality are two indispensable elements that cultivate the power of developing technology. In Kang Chiao Linkou Campus, these two elements are equally valuable in our teaching curriculum. With all the English skills and background knowledge they acquired, grade six students are assigned an important task in the final year of their elementary school life- to understand the users\u2019 needs and design a new invention. Through the process of the project 2022 Innotech Expo, students firstly read the article \u201cZoo\u201d and understand the idea that technology may change the shape of our life drastically. Then, they started to think of \u201cwhat will happen in the future?\u201d Students brainstormed and identified the most important device that will last to the future and conducted a further research on this device. Next, they created an online questionnaire and made a survey from people around them to understand the needs of the device\u2019s potential users. Students used their creativity and designed their prototype. They even improved it once again by gathering other people\u2019s opinions. Finally, the grade six students had their final inventions done and tried to promote them to parents in the English Open Day.
\u3000\u3000Through the process of the project, we tried to guide students to boost their creativity and think in a different, imaginative way. However, these thoughts are not coming from nowhere. With actual tests and evidence-gathering again and again, students clearly understood the needs of the users and finally formed the idea of their inventions. We are very proud to say that the result is tremendous. With the skill of information-gathering and critical thinking acquired, grade six students are ready to face any challenges that will come in the future.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
