Years of Covid regulations and restrictions, masks, lockdowns, distancing, and difficulties have rolled by each of us. Many of our regular activities have had to be adjusted or cancelled to adhere to safety precautions, but this year was finally different.
For the first time since Covid-19 started interfering with our daily lives, the Linkou Campus Interclass competition could be hosted without restrictions! Students were in the audience and all the competitors able to compete without several rules on distancing. With years of pent up energy, and the excitement of finally getting a chance to shine, the 2023 Interclass competition was a wild ride.
The Grade 1 and 2 students lead the way with choreography straight from their own imaginations and their best imitation of various pop songs and children’s music. From Dynamite, through the Ant’s Go Marching, to Memories, they put on quite a show. The younglings danced and sang their hearts out in their quest to become the champions of the day.
The middle grades were the next ones up. Their task? Bring classroom readings to life through dramatization. The stage was filled with park rangers, lions, mice, butterflies, poets, and much much more. As always, the competition in this grade band was especially fierce, and the winners blew away both peers and judges with their reading and acting.
The last competition was with the higher grades. The mandate? Tell your peers and teachers about something that is important or interesting to you. As the least structured topic out of the various competitions, it always has some surprises. With academic topics such as the History of Taiwan, mixed with outliers such as the Highest Grossing Rock Bands of All Time, the competition was an eclectic mixture or hobbies, interests, and popular culture.
With this year’s interclass finally wrapped up, we look forward to the next one and all the fun it will bring!
