Curriculum Coordinator Juan Serafica
Writing at Kang Chiao is about teaching our students how to think and express themselves using English. With the introduction of “myView” in English classes this year, the International Department also took the opportunity to update our curriculum in order to improve student outcomes. One of the most important changes we’ve made this year is introducing writing prompts as a regular component of our curriculum. Writing prompts are activities in which our students will be tasked to write in a variety of genres and demonstrate different writing skills. Each student completes 8 writing prompts a year.
The “myWriting Showcase” is designed to reward our students who worked hard on writing throughout this semester. Each grade selected a specific writing prompt and students were nominated from every class. Members from the ID office selected works based on their content, creativity, and demonstration of character. The selected students each received a “myWriting Award” certificate and have their work showcased here on Hello English.
We plan to continue this showcase once per semester with a variety of writing prompts in order to give every student an opportunity to show their best.
