Learning approaches to the five senses experience of food culture

English Teacher Florence Yeh

Behind the Food

  • Through visual perception, students can observe the uniqueness of exotic cuisine.
  • Through auditory perception, students can listen to the historical stories behind desserts from different countries.
  • Through olfactory and tactile senses, students can explore the characteristics of various common spices.
  • Through taste, students can experience the wonderful flavors brought by exotic desserts.

Students stimulate their senses through auditory and visual cues. Allowing them to memorize knowledge more deeply.

Starting with Taiwan, they compare the differences in different countries by using ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) and exploring various culinary methods, food cultures, and dining etiquettes from around the world.

Having been guided by student feedback teachers encourage children to contemplate the value of food, diverse dietary practices, and how our connection to food plays a crucial role in maintaining relationships between people.

Mission Munchies

In the second section, the kids not only introduced some popular Taiwanese snacks to their foreign teachers but also share the reasons. Afterward, the EV teachers broaden their focus to a more macro level. The EV teachers introduced ten different cuisines from ten different countries to the children. The lower-grade students throw the ball into the voting box. Showing their preferred exotic dessert to try! Through riddles and posters, the higher- grade students gained a better understanding of the content.

Spices Journey

At the third station, we lead the children to experience the wonders of various spices. After listening to the introduction, the children personally touch and smell these spices, and they furrow their brows, realizing the significance of spices in their everyday dining.

Finally, students will understand and embrace their own and others’ multicultural backgrounds. Through food, we can better understand people from around the world and their values.
